• How do I tell work I'm sick?

At least 30 minutes before you are due to start work, you must phone the shop and tell your manager or next in charge that you will not be attending work.

This should be done by yourself (or in extenuating circumstances someone else on your behalf).

For the sfaff sickness voicemail, call the number  01226 695700 and option 9.

If you call out of hours you will go through to a general voicemail message.  At this point press 9 and you go through to staff voicemail line.

  • Nobody answered the phone!?!?

We have a staff sickness line, where you can leave a message to tell us that you will not be attending work.

The number is 01226 695700 and option 9.

If you call out of hours you will go through to a general voicemail message.  At this point press 9 and you go through to staff voicemail line.

  • How often should I update Old George?

You should phone each day of sickness, again 30 minutes before you're start time, to keep us in the loop about how you're doing.

We can also answer any questions you may have at the same time.

  • What happens next?

If you are off work for 3 days, you could be eligable for SSP (statutory sick pay).

If you are off sick for 7 days or more, you must provide a fit note.

  • How do I get a fit note?

Employees can get a fit note from the following healthcare professionals:

    -GP or hospital doctor

    -registered nurse

    -occupational therapist

    -pharmacist

    -physiotherapist

The healthcare professional needs to assess the employee’s fitness for work before giving a fit note.

Fit notes are free if the employee has been ill for more than 7 days when they ask for one. The healthcare professional might charge a fee if the employee has been ill for 7 days or less.

  • What about coming back to work?

Before you return to work you should fill out the SC2 form in the staff portal.  Everyone needs to fill this out for whatever period of sick you have had.

The day you return to work after a period of sickness or injury absence, you will have a back to work interview, this will be held by a manager.  This is to make sure you are fit to return to work, and to update you on any changes that may have happened since you were off.

  • Where do I get the form from?

On the staff portal, you can fill in a SC2 form and it will come straight to who needs it.
