how it started
Back in 2010 Gareth & Andrew met, we often used to joke after a hard day at work "lets pack it all in and open a coffee shop"
Fast forward 6 years and Gareth's & Andrew's life had changed by adopting their son Riley, life was tough and Riley has additional needs Gareth & Andrew used to visit coffee shops to recharge and be ready for the next challenge with Riley. We often used to visit Sheffield and Leeds because Barnsley didn't cut it for coffee.
Gareth finally managed to talk Andrew into allowing him to try and open a coffee shop in Barnsley! This way we would be able to be around for Riley before and after school and Gareth would be able to work and have adult conversation!
We opened the doors to Old George 26th February 2017. Click on picture below for history of Old George.

Why are we called Old George?
ButtonGareth & Andrew spent hours and hours thinking about what we could be called!
Barnsley Barista was one, we then resarched into the building and site history.
1785 our site was a pub called "George & Dragon Inn" so we changed this to become Old George, and we love it!

The Birth
ButtonThe Birth of Old George
Market hill opened it doors for a soft launch 26/2/2017. We were mostly visited by family and friends.

Town Hall
ButtonWe were approached by the council to open an additional site inside Town Hall.
For many months we said no! But finally we gave in when they made us an offer we couldn't really refuse.
Town Hall site opened its doors 26/2/2019 on our ogirional site 2nd birthday.

Heritage
ButtonCovid happened and destroyed trade, but we used this as an opportinity to grow.
We accuired this site, The Heritage Deli & Kitchen, in Dec 2020 and re-branded to Old George.
This company has now changed hands, and is now owned by Craig.
